Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) Annual Report Deadline 30 June 2023
The Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) requires Information Officers in public bodies (government organisations) to submit Annual Reports regarding the requests for access to records they have received and processed.
The Information Regulator has, however, decided to request Information Officers in private organisations to also submit reports in terms of their right in section 83 (4) in PAIA by 30 June 2023.
The information required is:
- The number of requests for access received;
- The number of requests for access granted in full;
- The number of requests for access granted in terms of section 46 of PAIA;
- The number of requests for access refused in full and refused partially and the number of times each provision of PAIA was relied on to refuse access in full or partially;
- The number of cases in which the periods stipulated in section 25(1) of PAIA were extended in terms of section 26 (1) of PAIA;
- The number of internal appeals lodged with the relevant authority and the number of cases in which, as a result of an internal appeal, access was given to a record;
- The number of internal appeals which were lodged on the ground that a request for access was regarded as having been refused in terms of section 27 of PAIA;
- The number of applications to a court which were lodged on the ground that an internal appeal was regarded as having been dismissed in terms of section 77 (7) of PAIA.

Go to https://registrations.inforegulator.org.za/login and sign in using the details you used to register as an Information Officer.
The submission process is straight forward, please see the steps below:
Once you have signed in, an option to select PAIA Annual Report becomes visible. After clicking on this, you will be taken to a screen the Registration Portal/PAIA Reporting Screen.
A blue button on the right under Actions will take you to the PAIA Report form which has fields listed in the bullet points listed above and a Submit button at the bottom of the form.
An acknowledgement email should be sent to you by email from the Information Regulator once you have submitted our report.
